Redox Platinum Electrode
The Platinum REDOX electrode is supplied with a 5 Metre cable and is connected to the Positive (RED) Terminal of the Boat Meter. To make a REDOX measurement of Water or any aqueous solution you need a Reference electrode to complete the circuit. This electrode is connected to the Negative (BLACK) terminal of the Boat Meter.

The REDOX potential is a measure of the corrosive power of water and is measured in millivolts(mV).
The interpretation of the result is key. The higher the result the more Corrosive the water is and indicates the ability of water to extract electrons from e.g., metal structures. Typical river water is around 150-300mV but every 60mV increase means that the corrosive power increases 10 times. If the result increase 120mV then the ability of the water to corrode increases 100 fold.
This electrode is a useful tool to identify and avoid corrosive situations and can also be used to locate the source of Stray DC or enhanced corrosive situations.
