Hauling out can be costly

Hauling out a boat can be a costly excercise in more ways than one, haul out to early to often and this causes more expense than required, too late could mean expensive repairs.

Don’t haul out to change your sacrificial anodes too early.

Connect Meter to Hull

1. Connect Clip to Hull

Firstly you would fasten the crocodile clip to the metal body of the hull or the metal that you wish to test such as a driveshaft etc. Making sure you have a good secure connection.

2. Lower Electrode Into Water

Next you would need to lower the cathodic protection reference electrode over the side and into the water as close as you can to the boat connection.

Take hull potential meter reading

3. Take The Reading

Lastly you would need to ensure that the meter is turned on, then take the reading by pressing the read button on the meter control panel to gain the results.

about galvanic corrosion

Galvanic corrosion happens when two or more differing metals are subject to an electrochemical reaction.

The two metals are different because the less stable metal say aluminium and a more stable metal say stainless steel are subject to an electrical exchange when they come in to contact with a conductive solution (water). Learn more below and how to best use your sacrificial anodes.
